Suryakant Bhavsar is an Architect based in Ahmedabad – India, studied architecture at Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, graduating with honors in 1965. Before establishing his own architectural firm in 1972, he worked with Ar.B.V.Doshi - M/s Stein Doshi & Bhalla as senior designer and Consultant, while also teaching at CEPT-School of Architecture-Ahmedabad. Since then, he has worked on architectural commissions of significance. His Professional experience spreads over last 50 years wherein he has designed multitude of projects ranging from individual residences to large townships, IT work spaces, Institutional & Industrial complexes, hotels, Health facilities and high – rise residential complexes spread in different parts of the country. His work portfolio showcases amazing sensitivity to site, local culture and Construction technique. The grounded ethics and morals which surround Ar. Bhavsar’s work are refreshing inspiration to both student’s and professionals.

 

Bhavsar’s approach to Architectural design is the experimentation of space, to create buildings that provide solutions to current problems fusing the basic values system inherent in our culture. The Architecture created by Suryakant Bhavsar emerges from his careful analysis of how life constantly evolves and changes. His work focuses on details that exist within the “big picture”. Famed for blending traditional Indian aesthetic with modernism, Bhavsar is probably one of India’s best known architect for putting simplicity to work on terms of comfort and maximum utility for the space and form.

 

Every project undertaken by the firm is designed personally and directly by Mr. Bhavsar. All buildings designed by him respond to the complex demands of rapid urbanization, climate and culture. In a country that is both developing and industrialized, whose architectural inheritance is ancient as well as recent and whose society is conservative and pluralist, Bhavsar’s work combines sophisticated technology and a sense of history and context imparted not only by design but also by local materials

and skills.

 

He has been a visiting faculty in different schools of architecture, where he has been able to influence number of students through his studio sessions. His involvement in practical work and his interest in theory have combined in order to sustain his interest in academics and this has drawn him into special public lectures and presentation to interested group of audiences in several places.

 

He continues to strive in his pursuits towards excellence in the field.

 

He is an associate member of Indian Institute of Architects, council of architecture and also the Gujarat Institute of Civil Engineers and Architects.

 

His penchant for exactitude in design and works have earned him national prominence when he was honored with the ARCHITECT OF THE YEAR – 1993 NATIONAL AWARD* for his design of hospital complex in Korba, Chhattisgarh, India, for Madhya Pradesh electricity board.
